House of the Valais

Overview

House of the Valais, owned by breeder and entrepreneur Brandi McGrath, is a one-of-a-kind farm in Oakdale, CA, specializing in Valais Blacknose Sheep—a rare and beloved Swiss breed known as “the world’s cutest sheep.” In addition to her purebred flock, Brandi has pioneered a highly successful upbreeding program to create La Petite Valais Blacknose Sheep, known for their manageable size, charming disposition, and strong breed characteristics.

Brandi approached us with a core challenge:
She needed a professional, trustworthy, visually branded website that could represent her expertise, display her livestock programs, and support a growing demand for farm-made wool products and merchandise.

Our mission: build a digital home for her farm that was equal parts educational, beautiful, and capable of generating sales.

Client Goals

Brandi’s priorities centered around three needs:

1. Showcase Her Two Distinct Breeding Programs

  • Valais Blacknose Sheep (VBN)
  • La Petite Valais Blacknose Sheep (LPVBN)

These required separate but visually connected sections, each highlighting lineage, breed standards, program goals, and available sheep.

2. Sell Wool Products & Farm Goods

Brandi produces high-quality farm products such as:

  • Raw and processed wool
  • Pelts
  • Handmade goods
  • Farm-branded merchandise

She needed a seamless ecommerce platform capable of handling:

  • Inventory
  • Secure checkout
  • Shipping options
  • Easy product updates

3. Enhance Brand Credibility & Professional Presence

As one of the few breeders in California mastering this level of upbreeding, she needed a website that reflected:

A welcoming, boutique farm aesthetic | Expertise | Quality | Transparency | Love for Animals

Our Approach

1. Branding & Visual Identity

We crafted a brand style that mirrored the farm’s personality—warm, authentic, and deeply connected to its animals. This included:

  • Earth-toned color palette inspired by wool, farmland, and natural fibers
  • Sophisticated serif headers to convey heritage and credibility
  • Clean sans-serif body text for readability
  • Soft rounded accents referencing the gentle, whimsical nature of the sheep
  • Photo-forward layout using Brandi’s images of her flock and farm

The result:
A visually cohesive identity that feels both elegant and rooted in agricultural authenticity.

2. Dual Breeding Program Architecture

We structured the site to clearly separate—but visually connect—the two programs:

Valais Blacknose Sheep

  • Breed characteristics
  • Registration details
  • Flock information
  • Ram & ewe profiles
  • Photo gallery

La Petite Valais Blacknose Sheep

  • Upbreeding methodology
  • Generation tracking
  • Advantages of the smaller breed
  • Before/after lineage improvements
  • Available lamb information

This dual-section layout gives visitors clarity, while highlighting Brandi’s mastery and dedication to advancing both breeds.

3. E-Commerce Development

To support her farm product sales, we built a full ecommerce solution, including:

  • Product catalog with rich descriptions
  • High-resolution photography
  • Inventory tracking
  • Secure payment integration
  • Tax & shipping settings tailored to agricultural products
  • Automated confirmation emails
  • Easy backend management for future updates

Brandi can now sell:

  • Wool (raw, carded, or finished)
  • Pelts
  • Handmade woolen goods
  • Seasonal farm merchandise

The store matches the site’s design so the shopping experience feels natural and fully integrated.

4. Educational & Community Features

Because Brandi is passionate about sharing knowledge, we added:

  • FAQ sections on breed care
  • Informational pages about upbreeding
  • Farm story + mission page to highlight her journey
  • Contact forms for lamb inquiries and breeding requests

These increase transparency and strengthen House of the Valais’s reputation as a trusted breeder.

5. Mobile Optimization

Over 60% of farm-related website traffic happens on mobile—so the entire site was built mobile-first:

  • Simplified menu
  • Large tap targets
  • Fast-loading photo galleries
  • Mobile-friendly product grids
  • Streamlined checkout

This ensures buyers and breeders can browse sheep profiles or purchase products from any device.
